Agronomy: What We Should Know

If you are currently a grade 12 student in high school, you may recall seeing Agronomy major in your scholarship booklet, and wonder what this major is all about. Here are the things you should find out about this major:

What is Agronomy?

Agronomy is a science major, which is related to soil management and the use of technology either in producing food and fuel from plant or in land recovery. It is related to agriculture platform of how to grow crop efficiently and profitably by using natural resources.

Before Choosing this Major

If you are a high school student, who plans to choose Agronomy for your higher education, make sure you have strong fundamental knowledge in Biology, Agriculture, Soil Science, and Geography.

Studying Agronomy

You will be trained with these following subjects in detail. This is good for you to be familiar with them before your four-academic year starts such as Biotechnology, Soil Management/ Soil Classification, Weed Control, Insect and Pest control, Soil Fertility, Crop Alteration, and Plant Breeding.

Career Path

By graduating from this major, you will possibly become one of the following:

Agronomist: You can obtain government jobs in the Ministry of Agriculture or other positions with non-government organizations working on agriculture sector.

Modern Farmer: You can run your own farm by using your advanced knowledge to improve the production of your farm effectively, and sell out with a large sum of profit.

Crop scientists: You will be specialized in producing and improving food crops by conducting experiments and developing methods of production.

Researcher: You can work independently by conducting research in any particular area of agriculture with creative and capable research initiatives for any proposal of a funded project.

Once you finish high school, you can consider choosing this major simply with this supportive knowledge, which could benefit you later with your study at universities.
